Breeder queens play a crucial role in the success of bee breeding programs. The Selected Breeder Queen Bee Authentic Apis m. carnica is characterized by exceptional production traits, rigorously tested under real production conditions, and exhibits a pronounced cleaning behavior known as Varroa Sensitive Hygiene (VSH).
These queens possess ideal morphological and behavioral traits that align perfectly with the Authentic Carniolan bee standards. Their offspring consistently reflect these desirable characteristics, ensuring the continuity of quality within the lineage.

A breeder queen is specifically bred, selected, and/or instrumentally inseminated for genetic excellence, which means that her genetics are pre-selected and known, optimized for quality and uniformity. Breeder queens are the cornerstone of a successful bee breeding program and are more valuable for breeding because they have been carefully selected for their solid brood pattern, gentleness, high brood viability, and Varroa/disease resistance. The offspring of a breeder queen are more likely to inherit desirable traits and characteristics, such as high honey production, gentleness, and disease resistance.
Breeder queens offer several benefits for beekeepers:
- Genetic Excellence: Breeder queens feature pre-selected maternal and paternal lines that are 100% known and carefully identified, offering optimal genetics vital for the growth of strong colonies.
- Uniformity and Quality: They are naturally mated on racial mating station for Apis m. carnica , ensuring that everything has been optimized for quality and uniformity, which is essential for a successful bee breeding program.
- Desirable Traits: Queen breeders evaluate traits such as color, gentleness, honey production, hygienic behavior, population size, and growth rate, cleaning behavior (VSH) when selecting breeder queens.
- Colony Performance: Breeder queens contribute to the development of colonies with desirable traits such as high honey production, rapid spring buildup, and high winter survival, which are valuable for beekeeping.
Each year, we offer a limited number of breeder queen bees for sale. Due to high demand, it is necessary to arrange prior agreements to secure the availability of suitable breeder queens.
Each queen is assigned a unique pedigree number and recorded in the original pedigree book for the Carniolan bee, Apis m. carnica, maintained by the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia (KIS). Along with the queen, you will receive an extract from this pedigree book, detailing the queen’s lineage and mating location. A zootechnical certificate is available upon request.

1. Quality Control
Authentic Carniolan Queen Bees are mated and selected at our dedicated mating station. To minimize the time spent outside the colony, queen bees are caught only on demand. They are housed in nucs and harvested when capped brood is present. Each Authentic Carniolan Queen Bee is marked with a colored numeric disc and assigned a pedigree number. Prior to shipment, every queen bee undergoes a thorough quality check to ensure the highest standards are met.
2. Order
Queen bees are available from week 16 to week 35. Due to high demand often exceeding supply, it is essential to make a reservation as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Please note that queen bees are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
3. Shipment
We ship your new Authentic Carniolan Queen Bees in plastic transport and introduction cages. These queen bees can endure travel for several days, up to 14. Typically, shipments within Europe take three to five days to arrive. We send queen bees as priority letters via Pošta Slovenije, with a maximum of 30 queens per letter. Shipments are dispatched on Mondays and Tuesdays, unless otherwise arranged, ensuring you likely receive your queen bees within the same week and minimizing the risk of them being held in a depot.
We do not assume responsibility for the queen bees during delivery or for the successful introduction of your new queen bee to the colony.
4. Payment
We require payment to be completed before dispatch, which means at least two weeks prior to your desired delivery week. This ensures that you receive your queen bees on time. Please note that no queen bees will be shipped until payment is received.
– A deposit is not required in advance, but you may choose to make one if you wish.
– If you change your mind about your order, please inform us as soon as possible.
5. Intra trade certificate
Every shipment must include the intra trade certificate (health certificate).
The health certificate (intra trade certificate) will be issued within 3 working days for shipments of queen bees within the EU.
To obtain a health certificate for your queen bee delivery, please register in Traces NT. Access the registration portal at [Traces NT](https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/tracesnt/login).
Important Information

– Only a veterinarian inspector can register your apiary in Traces NT, so please contact them directly.

6. Package
The package contains: Queen bee with 7-9 nurse bees in the traveling / introduction cage.
Information about the Queen bee (Transcript of the Herdbook of Apis mellifera carnica);
intra trade certificate (health certificate); and the payment info.
7. Follow your package
